PowerQuality
Monitoring
Made Easy.

The Hardware:
C(PQ)MU

C(PQ)MU stands for "Contactless (PowerQuality) Measurement Unit". It was developed to enable TSOs to quickly perform PowerQuality measurements of current and voltage up to 9 kHz (according to IEC61000).

Its innovative design offers a cost-effective, rapid deployment solution—with installation times under 15 minutes—compared to alternatives, as it requires no direct connection to a TSO’s assets. The C(PQ)MU is fully self-sufficient and adaptable for both short-term use (days to weeks) and long-term deployment (months to years).

The Software: PQanalytics

PQanalytics is a state-of-the-art platform that simplifies the visualization and interpretation of Power Quality data. Accessible from anywhere, it offers a range of interactive plots for intuitive analysis.

Each C(PQ)MU device includes access to PQanalytics, though it can also be purchased separately to analyze PowerQuality data from other measurement devices.

Details on the C(PQ)MU

Technical Specifications

The C(PQ)MU employs a specialized, low-power PowerQuality meter that meets relevant PQ Class A standards. Powered by a battery and solar panel, it operates independently, requiring no TSO infrastructure.

Data is transmitted via LTE and can be accessed live online. Detailed technical specifications are available here.

Working Principle

The C(PQ)MU measures electric and magnetic fields from power system assets, deriving power quality metrics without direct interaction with the asset itself.

Typically, the C(PQ)MU is positioned near a line bay in a substation and can be deployed either temporarily (e.g., days to weeks) or as a stationary installation (years).

Validation

Each C(PQ)MU undergoes laboratory calibration to ensure measurement accuracy. Its performance has been validated through multiple pilot projects and validation campaigns, comparing results with conventional inductive measurement transformers (reliable up to 700 Hz) as well as RC-dividers and transformer bushing measurements (reliable up to 9 kHz).

Past Projects

Over the past years, we have collected over 10 million PowerQuality datasets through various projects with TSOs across Continental Europe. These projects included measuring background harmonics under normal operating conditions, during black start trials, and HVDC commissioning tests.

If you have a project or require fast PowerQuality measurements at one of your locations, please feel free to contact us at: company@c-sens.com.

Project lead times, from initial request to first measurement data, can be as short as two weeks.

Flexibility

C-Sens is currently composed of a small team of experts who developed both the hardware (C(PQ)MU) and software (PQanalytics) from the ground up.

Our goal is to help TSOs quickly identify and address PowerQuality issues. We are highly motivated to deliver the most suitable solution for your specific needs. Recognizing that each TSO operates under unique conditions, we believe that customized solutions offer the greatest value. As such, with us, extending functionality and resolving issues takes mere days, not months.

Price

The C(PQ)MU offers a cost-effective solution for obtaining PowerQuality data across the full spectrum required by IEC61000 (up to 9 kHz).

Conventional alternatives, such as RC-Dividers, are more time-consuming and complex to install, and they have limitations, such as the inability to measure harmonic currents. Additionally, the C(PQ)MU includes full access to the state-of-the-art visualization platform, PQanalytics (see below).

Details on PQanalytics

Usage

Users can access their PowerQuality data through a web platform, with the delay between measurement and data availability configurable from seconds up to a maximum of 10 minutes. The data is hosted in a certified, secure data center in Berlin, Germany.

Alternatively, PowerQuality data can also be forwarded to the TSO's internal IT systems. In all cases, the PowerQuality data remains the exclusive property of the TSO.

Capabilities

Our PQanalytics platform provides a range of advanced, interactive plots for PowerQuality data analysis. These include heat maps, line plots, bar plots with IEC or custom limits, and polar phasor plots, among others.

In addition to that, users can overlay data on a heat map of the grid, enabling easier identification of harmonic sources and sinks in their high voltage network.

Demo

The PQanalytics platform can also be used independently of the C(PQ)MU, allowing you to analyze your own PQ data (e.g., in PQDIF format, etc.).
